Ingredients:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth, low sodium
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme

Instructions:

  1. Brown the ground beef over medium high heat. Use your spoon to break it into small crumbles until it's mahogany brown. Note: Don't rush this; the color equals flavor.
  2. Add diced onions and minced garlic during the last 3 minutes of browning until translucent and fragrant.
  3. Sprinkle the flour evenly over the cooked beef and vegetables. Stir constantly for 2 minutes until the flour is toasted and loses its raw white appearance.
  4. Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring vigorously. Do this in stages to prevent clumps.
  5. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and dried thyme.
  6. Lower the heat to medium low.
  7. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the gravy reaches a glossy sheen and coats the back of a spoon.
  8. Taste and adjust salt if needed.
